The Church’s Teacher

What does it mean to truly listen to the right voice? In a world filled with competing messages, teachings, and opinions, this sermon cuts to the heart of one of the most urgent questions facing the church today. Drawing from 1 Timothy 4, we are confronted with a sobering reality: not every voice that speaks about God is speaking from God. The Spirit expressly warns us that in later times, some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons. This is not a warning about forces outside the church, but about distortions that arise within it. False godliness, seared consciences, and religious performance that subtly shifts our eyes from Christ to ourselves -- these are the dangers Paul names with striking clarity. The antidote is not more religious effort, but a deeper attentiveness to the Holy Spirit, who was promised by Jesus himself as the one who would guide us into all truth and glorify Christ. As we explore this passage together, we are invited to ask ourselves honestly: whose voice are we actually listening to, and is it leading us closer to Jesus or further away?
