The Perils of Falling Asleep

Apr 19, 2026    Pastor Jose Prado

This powerful exploration of Acts 20:1-12 challenges us to examine whether we're truly awake to what God is doing in His church or merely going through the motions. The passage reveals four essential ways God works in and through His people that we cannot afford to miss.

First, we see God's love demonstrated through Paul's tender embrace and encouragement of believers after a terrifying riot—reminding us that God loves His people through His people. Second, we witness God's providence as Paul travels collecting offerings for struggling believers in Jerusalem, showing us that our changed plans and closed doors are often divine appointments. Third, we encounter God's communion as believers gather for twelve hours of worship, teaching, and breaking bread together—their passion for being in God's presence stands in stark contrast to our often consumeristic approach to church. Finally, we see God's resurrection power when young Eutychus falls from a third-story window and dies, only to be restored to life.

This account isn't just ancient history; it's a mirror held up to our hearts asking whether we're spiritually engaged or spiritually asleep. The question isn't whether we're physically present on Sunday mornings, but whether we're alive to the beauty of Christian community, awake to God's provision, and engaged in the transformative power available when we truly gather in His name.
